Three Beautiful Places in the Philippines

The Philippines is a great place to visit, because of the tropical climate it offers year round. With over 7000 islands, there’s so much to choose from. Surrounded by the waters of the Pacific Ocean and the China Sea it is the perfect destination for water activities. The mountains are rich in vegetations, rare birds and animals, exotic plants and rugged terrains.
One of the places I love in the Philippines is Palawan. They call this island the “Last Frontier of the Philippines.” It is the only island in the Philippines rated as the best island destination in the East and Southeast Asia in 2007, by the National Geographic Traveler magazine. Palawan is also the cleanest city in the Philippines.
The waters of Palawan are excellent for diving and fishing. The Busuanga Island, in Coron is the jump-off point for many dive operators. Under those pristine waters are 12 WWII Japanese shipwrecks sunken by the US Navy in 1944. It is about 131 ft. (40M) deep from the surface. It is a great exploration experience for shipwreck enthusiasts. This is one of the ten best scuba sites in the world according to Forbes Travelers Magazine.
The Calauit Game Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary is home to some of the exotic animals from Africa such as giraffes, zebras, elands, impala and waterbuck mixed with local animals such as the mouse deer, Palawan bearcat and peacock. This is like a mini-African safari where to these days the animals are free to roam around. This is a really great sight to see in Palawan.
El Nido is the most beautiful place in Palawan with a mega-diverse ecosystem such as rainforests, white sand beaches, rich marine life, mangroves and their famous coral and limestone reefs. The “dugong” or sea cow, which is the rarest marine mammal in the world, is found in the waters of El Nido.
This isolated island is separated from the main island by three bodies of water naming, the Luzon Sea, China Sea and Sulu Sea.
The El Nido resorts at Lagen and Miniloc are a little more expensive, with cottages on stilts set above the crystal clear ocean waters.
In Puerto Princesa—the province capital—is where you’ll see the Honda Bay. The bay consists of several islets with shallow reefs, beautiful beaches and resorts. The bay is a favorite destination for people who love swimming, snorkeling and diving. Locals and tourists alike love this place. For a small fee, you can go island hopping at the Honda Bay.
You can also go underground at the St. Paul Subterranean National Park and explore the underground river with plenty of beautiful rock formations inside. The St.Paul National Park features limestone karst landscape. The distinguished feature of the river is that it flows directly to the sea. It also consists a full mountain-to-sea ecosystem and some of the most significant forests in Asia.

Eight Philippines Sights to See

The Philippine archipelago is blessed with beautiful sceneries, miles and miles of white sand beaches, a year round tropical weather, historical sights and structures to admire, underwater creatures and caves to explore, natural resources to treasure and wildlife to protect.
It is truly a country that has God’s wonders spread across its more than 7,000 islands.
Here are eight attractions you might want to see when vacationing in the Philippines.
Banaue Rice Terraces
The Ifugaos built the Banaue Rice Terraces more than 2,000 years ago. It is about 5,000 feet above sea level and covers about 400 square miles of mountainside. This beautiful engineering of mankind is very unique in every sense of the word. They believed that the Batad ancestors of Ifugao carved this “staircase to the sky” with minimal tools and mainly used their hands to put the walls up one stone at a time.
Chocolate Hills in Bohol
These perfectly cone-shaped hills are a subject of debate whether it is an act of God or if they are manmade. There are about 1,268 hills and they are very much uniformed.
During the rainy season, the hills are actually green. However, venture to them during the hot days of summer and they turn into a chocolate color—hence the name.
Intramuros in Metro Manila
Intramuros used to be the center of political, religious and military power during the Spanish era. This walled city in Manila was built on the ruins of a Malay settlement some 400 years ago. It was home for thousands of Spanish colonists and their families during those times.
The walls suffered a tremendous damage during WWII. The Philippine government restored and reconstructed Intramuros in 1980 and it’s now a major tourists attraction in Manila.
Some of the attractions within the walls and the vicinity of Intramuros you must see include: the Fort Santiago, the Manila Cathedral, the San Agustin Church, the walls of Intramuros/Puerta de Santa Lucia, and the Casa Manila.
Yapak Beach (Puka Shell Beach)
This is the second largest beach in Boracay, Aklan. It is less populated, since tourists and locals alike hang out at the white beach. It is not as remote as it used to be, but still more private than the white beach. It’s beautiful and the water is crystal clear. This is paradise.
Take a look at the picture!
Metropolitan Manila
The Philippines capital, Manila, is a center of all things in the country. It is known as the city by the bay. Although humid, busy and a very congested city, you can find almost anything in Manila. It has a lot of attractions to see and it’s a mecca for shoppers. They also have the biggest mall in Southeast Asia. The nightlife in Manila is like no other.
Filipinos love of music is evident in bars, pub, and restaurants where live bands are featured. It is also the center of cultural and entertainment industry. Sunset at Manila Bay is a sight to see. Many photographers from all over the world capture it. It is by far the best I’ve ever seen.
Tagaytay
Only about an hour’s drive from Makati or Alabang Metro Manila is the province of Tagaytay, where you can breathe fresh air and the climate is cool just like Baguio City.
While there, take some time to view the smallest volcano. A lake surrounds it. The scenery is breathtaking. Tagaytay has a lot of attractions to offer besides the volcano. It’s a great place to hike too. You can either spend a night or two and explore the city or just spend the whole day relaxing and enjoy the beautiful sights around you.
Corregidor Island
This tadpole-shaped island is the place where the Americans and Filipinos fought side-by-side to save the country from falling to the hands of the Japanese during WWII. You can see remains of the barracks and the canyons used to fight the enemies. This is the island where General MacArthur left for Australia before it was attacked. It’s where he proclaimed his famous words, “ I shall return.”
Rizal Park
The Rizal Park is located in the heart of Metro Manila. This 148-acre park was named after the Philippines National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal. It’s a place where people do their early morning walks and Tai Chi exercises before it gets too hot. Families take their children here to play and at night you’ll see plenty of lovers strolling along the park holding hands. This is also one of the few places left where you can ride the calesa (a horse drawn carriage made of wood). The Rizal Park has playgrounds, fountains, an open-air concert arena, and a Japanese and Chinese garden.
Whether you enjoy relaxing at the beach, soaking up nature, exploring historical spots, or strolling in the park, the Philippines is a wondrous place to do all of these things and more.

Ladakh: Leh

A travel handbook claims,” The journey from Srinagar to Leh must be one of the most fascinating road journeys in the world...” The author is certainly not far off the track, and those who have experienced this trek, can attest to the fact that there is no substitute to this spectacular travel journey on the high roads. If you ignore the threats of militant attacks, you can drive safely from Srinagar to Sonmarg, en route to Leh. The 80kms stretch of land-3000mts above sea-level-is blessed with exquisite beauty and gracious people, allowing everyone to perceive its irresistible attraction. It is no wonder, nature’s extravagance can be seen touching the skies.

Starting Point of The JourneyThe take-off point is Srinagar-a name that sets most people’s imaginations racing - and one progresses by criss-crossing the Pari Mahal, Dal Lake, Chashma Shahi and the deep green rice fields amidst the fragrance of a million flowers.¤ Ladhak Enjoys Its Pristine Beauty Since The Rule OF Mughal EmperorsAkbar, the great Mughal emperor, considered this area to be his “private garden” where the roses alone brought in an annual revenue of Rs. 1,00,000.Emperor Jehangir travelled miles to enjoy the beauty spots recommended to him. He was always accompanied by Ustad Mansur, the artist. A hard time for poor Mansur but he is said to have prepared sketches of no less than a hundred different flowers. The wise Mughal counseled visitors not to cling to the town of Srinagar and its environs. He wrote, “One should stay some days in these regions and go around them so as to enjoy one self thoroughly.”¤ Main Attractions
Sonmarg - The Path of GoldSome 80 km of driving from Srinagar, all tourists en route to Leh stop to brace themselves in the fresh mountain air of the undulating grassy plain of Sonmarg (the path of gold), a landscape of epic proportions, and one too elemental to be spoiled even by the bus-loads of people trudging single file over the greens. In the pleasing cool climate one can enjoy the massive patchwork of colours from that of the searing saffron to willow tendrils of pale green, fir and birch.Sonmarg is the last major town in Kashmir, an ideal place to travel and set up a base camp to explore the numerous high altitude lakes like Vishansar, Kishansar, Gadsar, Rehmansar, and others. Even in the meadows of Sonmarg, one can enjoy the small springs and glaciers.A Drive From Sonmarg To Drass Driving from Sonmarg to Drass (the next point of interest) tests the mettle of the driver as well as the vehicle as the dizzy heights can often induce a mysterious thrill as the vehicle meanders through the 25km Zogilla pass (3539 meters). It is the first among three passes, marking the boundary between colourful Kashmir and the mountains of Ladakh.Zogilla is historically of great interest too. A tank was used for the first time at such a great height here, during a major battle in 1948. From Zogilla, the road glides to Minamarg meadow, resplendent with Alpine flora and from there on to the first village - Drass. It is possibly the coldest place after Siberia, where the temperature plunges as low as -50 degrees centigrade and snow can accumulate up to 10 feet high. However, there is no need to be concerned about the vagaries of nature here; the sun is there to shine in all its glory, and the blazing sunlight does make things quite pleasant if not glorious.Drass is inhabited by Muslims, belonging to the Dard community. The village remains sleepy, cold and immobilized for a quarter of the year during winter. But once barely cultivation starts things change dramatically. The tourist potential of the place is gradually being tapped and people are setting up small shops and hotels during the tourist season.Surprisingly, houses here are flat-roofed and not sloped as is the case with other hilly regions experiencing snowfall. The Drass mosque is an unusual one, crafted with metallic domes that glitter in the sun. Four ancient idols on the high way, close to RDAs, have puzzled inhabitants and tourists alike. These life-sized statues can hardly be identified, as they have weathered with time, standing as silent sentinels to witness the passage and progress of mankind since antiquity.Travel along the Drass River, one passes Kharbu and finally reaches Khargil on the banks of river, Suru. The road bears silent testimony to human efforts to cut deep-water channels into the granite slopes, creating terraces of nurtured soil and planning fields for plantation and orchards.Khargil -- A Significent Terminal of Srinagar-Leh Highway Tourists prefer this place for night halts as there are numerous hotels and for those interested in mountaineering, expeditions to Nun and Kun can be arranged. This serves as an ideal base camp. Khargil is pre dominantly a Muslim settlement with cobbled streets and narrow lanes. There are two interesting mosques exhibiting Turkish influences. Khargil gives way to Wakha Rong Valley after crossing the Suru and the adjacent tableland.Mulbek - Attractions of Lime Stone MassesAn hour’s drive through Wakha brings us to a landscape characterized by lime stone masses - Mulbek. This is the first Buddhist area. On the roadside, one encounters the imposing rock-cut statue of the meditative Buddha with four arms, or the Maitreya (the future Buddha), belonging to the 8th century.Mulbek GumphaNot far from this spot is the Mulbek Gumpha which presents a spectacular view on the very pinnacle of a crag, 200 meters above the main road. From Mulbek, the road leaves the Wakha valley and crosses the Namika La (a pass of 3,700 meters).Fotu La PassAfter tracing a brief zigzag path down the mountain, one encounters another pass among the landscape. This is Fotu La, the highest among the three passes at a height of 4093 meters. From this pass the road meanders down to Lamayaru, the oldest site of Ladakh, offering a majestic view of its rock formations and high mountains. Khalsi - The Heart of Ladakh The road once again contours steeply, encountering numerous bends and curves. One finally reaches Khalsi, the heart of Ladakh where huge prayer flags flutter in the air. Not far from Khalsi is Alchi, noted for its splendid wall paintings and iconography that reflects the Tantric tenets that crept into Buddhism later. Alchi leads the way to Likhir and finally to the village of Nimu, where one can monitor the river Indus and its tributary - the Zanskar river.Spituk MonasteryAfter climbing another plateau, one gets the first view of Leh, still 30km off. The last stopover may be Spituk on the banks of Indus. Spituk offers a monastery constructed in a series of tiers with courtyards and steps. The Spituk complex includes the Mahakel temple, containing the images of Vajrabhairava, resembling the Goddess Kali that is unveiled once a year.More and more military vehicles and depots are to be seen here these days. Since the inflow of tourists is minimal, Ladakhis are seen more often in their capital, Leh, the crucible of Ladakh. However, it will not be long before the business of tourism takes over this tiny community. Until then, here’s nothing to prevent you from travelling and enjoying the unspoilt beauty of Ladakh region.

Places to Visit in Manila

Manila is the capital city of the Philippines and one of two main places that you are likely to visit when you are traveling to this part of the world. The term “metropolitan Manila” or simply “metro Manila” refers to the city itself as more than one dozen other small cities and suburbs that surround the main city and make up the larger metropolitan area. Depending on which areas are included, this region includes anywhere from eleven million to nearly twenty million people (some sources distinguish Metro Manila as a smaller area than the larger surrounding “greater Manila” which accounts for the difference in population between sources. Whatever the case, this is a large area and one of the most thriving portions of the Philippines so you can bet that there are a lot of things to see and places to visit when you travel here.

For the traveler who wants to know the “must-see” things in this area, here are 15 hot spots to hit up when you visit Metro Manila for the first time:

1. Rizal Park. This historic park has been the site of some very important moment’s in Manila’s past and is a great place to start if you really want to learn about the history of the area. Memorial plaques and monuments will give you this type of education throughout the park. There are also more leisurely things to enjoy here including the Chinese and Japanese Gardens, the Orchidarium and Butterfly Pavilion and a chess plaza. In fact, if there’s only one thing that you get to experience during your stay in Metro Manila, you’ll want it to be this park because there is simply so much to see and do in this one area.
2. Nayong Pilipino. For a more modern “park”, you may want to check out this theme park which draws tourists from around the world. Various historical points of interest and cultural celebrations can be experienced here at this all-ages adventure area.
3. Manila Ocean Park. Those people who are fans of Sea World in the United States may find that they also enjoy this oceanarium in Metro Manila. There is also a boutique mall here and some other things to do while you’re visiting.
4. Intramuros. Visitors who are truly interested in the history of the region will want to make sure to check out this district which is the oldest district of Manila. It’s a “walled city” which harkens back to the days when fortresses were required to keep the people of an area safe from outsiders. Just exploring the old architecture (particularly the churches) here can really help you to gain a great understanding of what this region was like years ago. Various forts, statutes and monuments can also be enjoyed here.
5. Manila Cathedral. Those people who are interested in the religious history of the area will specifically want to check out this cathedral which was first established as a church in Manila way back in the sixteenth century.
6. Fort Bonifacio. This is a section of a city in Metro Manila where you can learn more about the military history of the Philippines. Various landmarks are located throughout the district with the main place to visit being the Heritage Park memorial park. Memorial cemeteries can also be visited here.
7. Villa Escudero Plantation. This historic coconut plantation located South of Manila is reportedly an amazing place to experience. It combines a museum tour / history lesson with an astoundingly beautiful natural setting to give you a terrific overview of the beauty of days past in this area. Note that their website is down as of the writing of this report.
8. Manila Zoo. Many people have expressed some sense of disappointment with the Manila Zoo as compared to some of the other great zoos around the world. However, it’s something that other visitors think is worth checking out because of the fact that it is the oldest zoo in Asia.
9. Walk along the Roxas Boulevard Baywalk. There will be times during your stay when you don’t necessarily want to “do” anything but you do want to continue to experience Metro Manila. For those downtimes, a walk along the Baywalk is ideal. It’s particularly known as a great place for watching the sun set into the Manila Bay but you can also just people watch and enjoy the scenery here.
10. Pasig River Ferry. Another really relaxing way to take in the sights and other senses of Metro Manila is to indulge in a tourist-y ferry ride.
11. Photograph Taal Volcano. This active volcano has caused a lot of devastation to the area surrounding Manila in the not-so-distant past. However, when it’s not erupting, it’s a beautiful “mountain” located on VolcanoIsland in LakeTaal. The scenic beauty is worth taking photos of while you’re enjoying a stay in Metro Manila. There are nearby resorts and outdoor activities in this area.
12. The malls. Even if shopping isn’t your thing, it’s worth it to check out at least one of the three major malls in Metro Manila because they’re history-making in their size and development. These three malls (SM Mall of Asia, SM City North Edsa and SM Megamall) are all on the list of the world’s largest malls, making them historic attractions as well as intriguing sightseeing opportunities.
13. Manila wet markets. For a more traditional shopping experience than what you’ll get at the malls, you’ll want to make it a point to visit one of Manila’s “wet markets”. These are open-air food markets where you can purchase fresh local foods from the people who live in the area. It’s a great cultural experience and one travelers should take the opportunity to enjoy while they are in the area.
14. The skyscrapers. Some people want to make sure to visit the tallest buildings in the places where the travel to and there are definitely some worth seeing in Metro Manila. Two of the ones that you’ll want to go take pictures of while you’re in the area are PBCom Tower and G.T. International.
15. Experience the nightlife of Makati. There are many places throughout Metro Manila where you can experience the bar and nightclub scene but this district within the city of Manila is the most well-known. If this type of thing is something that you like to take advantage of when traveling then that’s the district that you want to do it in.

California Tours and Travels

There are so many things to do in California. California travel is all about living life to the fullest, and we have more tourist attractions than any other place in the world.

California is one of the largest states in the US (trailing Alaska and Texas in size) and is referred to as the Golden State, which originates from the gold rush of 1849. Very few miners did anything but become broke, while those that supplied the miners with materials grew very rich. California is located along the west coast of the United States and is one of the most visited places on the planet. The capital has moved over time but is currently in Sacramento, located in the central part of the state.

Best Architectural LandmarksThe Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, one of the most famous bridges around the world and hallmark of the San Francisco skyline. It's also an exceptionally expanse to walk.Sacramento is California State's capital; The Golden State's dazzling white was made-up in 1869 and restored in 1976. Its dome, which looks like a Faberge egg from inside, and first statuary continue along its eaves, and antiques from the original offices furnish its historic rooms. The collection of California governors' portraits is peculiarly compelling.Mission San Carlos Borromeo del Río Carmelo in Carmel: The second mission founded in California, in 1770 by Father Junípero Serra, is possibly the most beautiful. Its stone church and tower dome have been renovated, and a garden of poppies adjoins the church. The Best MuseumsCalifornia State Railroad Museum in Sacramento: Old Largest attraction in Sacramento, the 100,000-square-foot museum was sometime the terminus of the Transcontinental and Sacramento Valley railways. It exhibits almost two dozen locomotives and railroad cars, among other attractions. J. Paul Getty Museum at the Getty Center in Los Angeles: Created by Richard Meier and concluded in 1997 to the sum of $1 billion, the Getty Center is a striking, starkly futuristic architectural landmark, with panoramic view of the city and ocean. The building itself is a good reason to visit, but so is the permanent collection, the crown jewel of which is Van Gogh's "Irises," which the museum paid $53.9 million to get. Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles: This museum is an icon for Los Angeles, a city whose identity and history is so together with the popularity of the automobile. Flawlessly renovated vintage autos are exhibited in life-size dioramas accurate to the last period detail. Upstairs galleries house movie star and motion-picture vehicles and car-related artwork. The Best Natural AttractionsRedwood National and State Parks: Acres of inconceivable massive redwood trees, up to 350 feet tall, tower over thick, lush, oversized ferns, mosses, and wild orchids in the old-growth forests along the Northern California coast. Walking through these groves is a memorably serene feel.Lake Tahoe: One of the world's best magnificent bodies of fresh water, sparkling Lake Tahoe includes close to 40 trillion gallons sufficiency to cover the entire state of California to a depth of 14 1/2 inches.Yosemite National Park: No thing in the state possibly even in the world compares to this vast wilderness and its miles of rivers, lakes, peaks, and valleys. With 3 of the 10 tallest waterfalls on earth, the biggest granite monolith anywhere, and some of the world's largest trees, Yosemite is one of the most beautiful natural places on the planet. The Best Performing ArtsThe San Francisco Opera: this world class company executes at the War Memorial Opera House, sculptured after the Opéra Garnier in Paris. The season opens with a gala in September and operates through December. This was the first municipal opera in the United States, and its productions and members have been acclaimed through the world. The San Francisco Symphony: the symphony is such a warm ticket, it's difficult to get a seat in advance. If your concierge doesn't have any tricks up his or her sleeve, you can forever try to buy tickets at the door. The American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco: The A.C.T. is one of the best nation's leading regional theatres. It has been named the American equivalent of the British National Theatre, the Berliner Ensemble, and the Comédie Française in Paris. The Best Inns and Bed & BreakfastsSt. Orres: Created in a Russian style complete with two Kremlinesque and domed towers. The St. Orres provides secluded accommodations constructed from century old timbers salvaged from a nearby mill, one of the most eye catching inns on California's North Coast.Albion River Inn: One of the famous rooms with a vista on the coast, the Albion River Inn is located on a cliff overlooking a rugged stretch of shoreline. The major part of the luxuriously appointed rooms have Jacuzzi tubs for two, elevated to window level. Add champagne and you're guaranteed to have a night you will never forget. The Best Luxury HotelsCalistoga Ranch: The best Napa Valley's latest hotel, with individual luxury cabins stocked with every imaginable luxury. In a secluded canyon, it's where nature meets nurture with a beautiful pool, spa, gym, and restaurant.Château du Sureau: Near to Yosemite, the Château du Sureau and Erna's Elderberry House restaurant stand out for their subtle European attention to quality and detail.
